When Work Meets Play

by Olivia Sottile —

As many of my close friends can attest, I love food. My day is structured around my meals, whether it be a drink at Starbucks or a fancy sit down restaurant in the East Village. And the funny thing is, it is not because I am necessarily hungry or wanting to eat. I am simply a foodie. My mother is the same way, and she always tells me, “I don’t eat to live, I live to eat.” One thing I love more than food? Travelling. “Vacation” is eating in different places, and seeing the sights. Never once have I thought about these passions combining in my professional life, but today at Sunshine Sachs that changed.

At the agency we met with a few Hofstra alum and a few other agents who all cover different areas of their clients. Sinead Conlon works mainly with restaurants and food, and this is where I met my new career. Hearing her description of her job was music to my ears.

Yes, I have mentioned this similar experience in a few other blogs. Yes, I have no idea what I want to do in the public relations world after this week. Sinead shared a story about her travels to Maine, and how she got behind the production and worked in a lobster distributor for one of clients. She is gaining valuable life experience in her passions, all while working. I hope to one day achieve the perfect harmony of my interests and work, and to be excited to go into work.
